About Heidi
My name is Heidi. A Registered Therapist. I currently live in Wokingham, Berkshire.
It’s really lovely to meet you!
What modalities do you use with your clients?
I am an Integrative Therapist, this means that I get to practice different models to my clients, for example, Person Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Transaction Analysis, Psychodynamic Therapy, Motivation Interviewing, Gestalt therapy, Humanistic Approach and other more.
And The Imago Relationship Therapy, Non-confrontational Communication Structure model and Bader-Person Development Model for Couples or Marriage counselling.
In my practice, no size fits it all. Therefore, I strongly believe that using different modalities is the key to making sure that my client’s needs are met accordingly.
What are your qualifications and experience?
Back in 1997, I studied IT hoping to work in an IT company, 2 years in my course I knew that, IT was not for me, therefore, I decided to stop and join Health and Social Care Field, which I loved ever since. I have had the privilege of working with people who have mental illness and learning disabilities for over 17 years.
I did an apprenticeship in the sector for occupations in Social Care and Care of Children and Young People. I have attained Advanced level in Adult and Social Care, which has helped me serve the people I have supported well. It has been a life-changing experience for me because not every day is the same day at work.
We face challenges and sometimes you don’t know what to expect when you turn up at work. It is been my pleasure to serve people or help people to enhance their way of life especially with those with mental illness and learning difficulties.
I felt I needed to grow in knowledge on mental health issues, therefore, I decided to learn more about it and add professional skills to what I have already experienced. This led me to acquire AIM Awards in skills in Psychotherapeutic and Counselling. I am an accredited member of the NCS and I am supervised under the Professional Standards Authority of National Counselling Society.
These professional skills have helped me serve numbers of people in my community in the last few years as a psychotherapeutic counsellor. I have worked as a volunteer with the charity Pilot Light House for few years before it closed down early 2019.
How can Counselling Help me?
Well… You are up for a treat!
Perhaps you have never had anyone talking about counselling before, that is okay because you are now in the right place. Your search for a counsellor or a therapist shows that, you have issues that perhaps you want to talk about. Issues that you feel embarrassed, shamed, guilt, feeling of abandonment or don’t belong or or don’t fit in or it could be perhaps you are overwhelmed with emotions due to maybe due to recent changes in your circumstances, such bereavement or loss of a family member or a friend, broken relationship or marriage, even struggling with parenting.
Counselling can do all these and more such as mental illness example anxieties, depression, attachment issues, childhood emotion neglect, paranoia and many others. You will learn that; you have always had an answer to your pressing issue. You just needed someone to help you navigate those blind spots and bring you to a total clarity of what is happening to you right now and arrive to a solution.
Would I be able to feel comfortable around you?
I have learnt in the past few years that a good rapport with my client is the key to get my clients to feel comfortable enough to trust me with their issues which I am so grateful about. I am a people person and I have never been in an awkward situation with my clients before. I assure you, you wont be the first. In addition to that, I offer a safe comfortable environment where you can relax and share issues that you feel may be difficult to share with your immediate family or friends. It is a place where you can find relief from your mental distress.
What would I expect in my first session?
We will have our first consultation by going through verbal and written contracts, including when to meet and time. I will listen to your presenting issues; we will then discuss which issues you would like to go through first. You oversee your session. You will decide how the session should go. I am here to assist you discover what you already know.
